BURNOUT & RECOVERY COUNSELLING IN BURNABY
Support for burnout, chronic work stress and the long road back from both. Learn what is driving the exhaustion, ease the pressure that keeps it going, and rebuild your capacity at a pace that holds. In person at Metrotown, and online across British Columbia.
Burnout changes the way you feel about work, the people around you, and yourself. You might still be getting everything done, but it takes more effort than it used to. Your concentration is worse, your patience is shorter, and the things that once motivated you feel increasingly difficult to care about.
Recovery is about more than getting enough rest. Burnout often develops when stress, responsibility, and pressure continue for long enough that there is little opportunity to properly recover. Therapy gives you space to understand what has been draining you and why those patterns keep repeating. From there, you can begin making changes that hold up beyond your next weekend off or vacation.
Who we work with
Burnout does not always look like being unable to work and many people continue performing at a high level while feeling increasingly exhausted underneath it. You may be managing a demanding career, studying, caring for other people, running a business, or simply carrying more responsibility than you have room for.
Counselling helps when stress has started to feel normal and work is taking up more space in your life than you want it to. It gives you room to look at what needs to change when the way you have been operating is no longer sustainable.
Understanding burnout counselling
Therapy for burnout looks at both the immediate exhaustion and what has been maintaining it. That can mean developing healthier boundaries, changing how you respond to pressure, understanding perfectionistic or self-critical patterns, reconnecting with parts of life that have been pushed aside, and deciding what actually needs to change.
Therapy looks at why the exhaustion keeps returning and what needs to change for that cycle to stop. The focus is on making recovery last, rather than finding yourself back in the same crisis six months later.
Meet the Burnaby Team
Our counsellors Declan, Arika, and the wider Burnaby Therapy Collective team work with adults experiencing burnout, chronic stress, anxiety, perfectionism, work pressure, and major life transitions.
Our therapists work with people whose relationship with work has become draining or difficult to sustain. Burnout counselling focuses on understanding what has been driving that stress and what needs to change for recovery to last. The work helps you build a healthier relationship with work that does not keep leading back to the same exhaustion.
Common questions about counselling for burnout and recovery
-
Stress often improves when the pressure decreases or you have time to recover. Burnout can feel more persistent.
You may stay exhausted after resting, feel detached from work, struggle to concentrate, or find easy tasks now take real effort.
You do not need to know whether what you are experiencing technically qualifies as burnout before coming to counselling.
-
No.
People come to counselling at different stages. Some are still working full time, some have reduced their hours, and others are already away from work. Therapy can be shaped around where you are now and what recovery realistically looks like in your circumstances.
-
Therapy cannot remove an unreasonable workload or change a difficult workplace on your behalf.
It can help you understand what is within your control, establish boundaries, change patterns that contribute to chronic stress, and think clearly about larger decisions concerning your work.
-

Burnout can affect people in many different circumstances, including students, caregivers, parents, healthcare workers, business owners, and people managing significant responsibilities outside of paid employment.
